This is a sequel to «The Scarlet Pimpernel.» The Scarlet Pimpernel represents both a five-petalled flower and an English Lord named Percy Blakeney. Percy uses that as a secret code in France to safely transport aristocrats and their families into England to escape the French Revolution and the guillotine. This book contains a series of adventures in which the Scarlet Pimpernel battles Chauvelin, the chairman of the Committee for Safety, which regulates the guards, spies, jails, Surete, and guillotine.
