Sanctuary Island

This novel tells the story of Elizabeth and Richard Anson. Richard Anson proposes to Elizabeth because of her beauty. He had not wanted love but was looking for a woman whose beauty would flatter him, play the great lady to his great gentleman, who could entertain his guests and grace his drawing-room, and who would acquiesce with at least a show of graciousness in the exercise of his rights as a husband. Knowing all that, Elizabeth had married him and had not felt that she was cheating him of anything.
