In their letters from 1956 to 1960, Christin and Heinrich write about their mutual trust, their friendship and love, and their shared interests in music, literature, and politics. At the heart of their correspondence, however, is Heinrich's existential engagement with the critical theology prevalent at the university at that time, which centered on the question: How does theological research as a science relate to faith in the biblical message? And ultimately, how can faith be grounded in accordance with reason? In their letters, Heinrich and Christin discuss these questions at length, but also the political situation in Germany, then divided into East and West, and the heated debates surrounding nuclear armament in the Federal Republic.
