The Irish church and its formularies

This book is formed from the contents of a very long and very impassioned letter written by the author to the Lord Primate of all Ireland. He discusses an amendment proposed by the Duke of Abercorn that there should be a discussion among the church members «to consider whether, without making any such alterations in the Liturgy or Formularies of our Church as would involve or imply a change in her doctrines, any measure can be suggested calculated to check the introduction and spread of novel doctrines and practices opposed to the principles of our Reformed Church; and to report to the General Synod in 1871.» He is anxious that this would bring about disunity.
