The Eternal Maiden

"The Knave of Diamonds" is a gothic romance story set in England in the early 1900s. This novel touches on many complex themes, such as hinted rape and cruelty, yet there is space for true love and passion, which makes the plot intense and captivating. The main character, Napoleon Errol, lives a life of pleasures and always gets what he wants, as he doesn't have any respect for anything sacred. Yet, he falls in love with a married woman of high morals. For him, she's an aim to achieve. Marriage is holy for her, although her family life is a disaster. The two heroes are bound to help each other, but their passions can lead to ultimate disaster.
