**The Hidden Psychological Reason Behind Excess Weight**
When people struggle with excess weight, they often search for the cause solely in their eating habits, mental health issues, or lifestyle choices. However, psychological factors play a significant role too.
One common reason is experiences of sexualized violence or trauma. A healthy body often conveys a message to the opposite sex: “I can be in a relationship, give birth, and love.”
Sometimes, this 'break' happens in childhood. Parents, unaware of the stages of a child's psychosexual development, may ridicule them, express aggression, or suppress their feelings and emotions. In adulthood, traumas can stem from infidelity, betrayal, violence, and rejection.
Those who have faced such experiences may find themselves battling with excess weight. This excess can signal, “I am unattractive; I do not deserve attention.”
Conversely, a woman struggling with weight often rationalizes her situation: “I am not in a relationship because I am not attractive; if I were to attract someone, I might face rejection, and extra weight protects me from that.” Thus, excess weight becomes a means of self-protection against new pain.
Men might experience similar situations. Boys may develop crushes on teachers or older classmates, only to face rejection. They cope with this stress in various ways, such as avoiding relationships or gaining weight.
So, what can be done about this?
**First**: Acknowledge that there is a problem.
**Second**: Understand if it stems from psychological trauma.
**Third**: Get a thorough medical examination to rule out physical issues.
**Fourth**: Explore the sexual boundaries of personal space. For instance, if a partner seems cold, indifferent, or uninterested while flirting with others, it can generate significant stress.
From my experience, in relationships marked by infidelity, flirtation, or inappropriate gallantry from a man, a woman is more likely to gain weight. Here, it becomes a justification and a protective measure.
