СHAPTER 1: THE OLD ATTIC

It was a rainy Tuesday afternoon. Tim was ten years old, and his sister, Maya, was eight. They were staying at their grandparents' old house near the sea. Because of the heavy rain, they could not play in the garden.

«I am bored,» said Maya, looking out of the window.

«Let's explore the attic!» suggested Tim.

They climbed the narrow wooden stairs up to the dusty attic. The attic was full of old boxes, paintings, and grandfather clocks. In the corner, under an old red blanket, Maya spotted a heavy wooden chest.

Tim lifted the heavy lid. Inside, there was a velvet bag. Tim opened it and pulled out a shiny silver key and a folded piece of paper.

«Look, Maya! It's a map!» shouted Tim.

The map showed an island near their beach called Whispering Island. On the island, there was a drawing of a red star with the words: «Find the secret behind the water.»

The next morning, the sun was bright and warm. The rain had stopped, and the sky was clear blue. Tim put the silver key and the map into his backpack.

«Grandpa, can we walk to the beach?» asked Tim.

«Of course! But don't go too far,» replied Grandpa with a smile.

Tim and Maya ran down the grassy hill to the shore. They followed the path marked on the old map. The path led them through a narrow crack between two giant grey cliffs.

On the other side of the cliffs, they discovered a hidden cove. The water was calm and sparkling. Resting on the golden sand was a small wooden rowing boat.

On its side, the name Sea Star was painted in white letters.

«Look!» pointed Maya. «The boat from the map!»

Inside the boat, there were two wooden oars and two orange life jackets.

CHAPTER 3: ACROSS THE BAY

They pushed the Sea Star into the water and began to row. The water was clear and cool. Beneath their boat, small fish swam in circles.

Suddenly, Maya gasped. «Tim, look next to us!»

Two friendly grey dolphins jumped out of the water! They swam alongside the boat, splashing happy waves. Maya laughed and waved her hand at them.

After twenty minutes of steady rowing, the boat touched the sandy beach of Whispering Island. Tall palm trees moved gently in the warm breeze, making a soft whistling sound.

«Listen» whispered Maya. «The trees are whispering! That is why it is called Whispering Island!»
