The Discovery of the Bass Strait is the account of the discovery of the landform based on explorer George Bass's personal journal. The strait was named after George Bass, after he and Matthew Flinders sailed across it while circumnavigating Van Diemen's Land (now named Tasmania) in the Norfolk in 1798–99. Contents: «A.
