Chapter 1
Why the iPhone?

The search for a good phone normally ends at the iPhone. When the value of money, durability, sustainability, latest features, and class are your goals in a smartphone, Apple has only one name in the market to hit.

Even the experts suggest you pick up the iOS operating system over Android among Smartphones. There is no doubt that Android brings you several features, customization, and possibilities. However, iOS still wins in gaining the confidence of many people around the globe. An apple user remains loyal to Apple whereas, there are possible chances of users shifting from Android to iOS most of the time.

Are you wondering why the iPhone is so popular and even an extraordinarily priced phone? Why is its release always a success? Then here are some things to know:

Security

Digital security is one of the major concerns that every digital device user has. In general, seniors are worried about their data and device security. However, with the iPhone, it is not an issue at all. Apple has been persistent with its data and device security for the users.

Seniors who normally cannot use the high-end digital security can comfortably use iPhone 13. Apple has a policy never to share client information with any businesses in the lead. Moreover, hacking an iOS device or cracking into it isn't easy. The regular security updates and information makes it even better and controlled.

Apple Ecosystem

Apple has an ideology or mission to connect people in a secured digital environment. That is why you will get all iOS connected devices in the ecosystem. If your children and grandchildren use Apple devices, you can connect to them easily.

All of these devices are secured and backed by one company. Therefore, there is no risk of data leaks or other potential risks to the users' digital security. It turns out to be a unique ecosystem for the senior users to have their privileges and use devices with some specific features.

You will get all the connectivity, security, safety, and utility options there. The iPhone comes with its software, apps, and other features. These are power-packed and backed by the best developers in the world that are promising and willing to help you with the best outcomes.

Consistent Updates

No one likes to be outdated, and Apple takes care of it. Regular system updates are common with so many add-ons for the users. If you are holding the latest apple device that qualifies for an update, you will have it immediately as it's released.

These automatic updates make life easier and hassle-free for seniors. You do not have to look into the technical aspects because the only drawback can be with the older devices. An older iPhone can cause trouble with the updates as it cannot handle the latest iOS system features.

Accessibility and Integration

If we mention that Apple has an ecosystem of its own, then it is fair. You are in heaven when you have all the Apple family products like iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Apple TV, and Mac. The family integrates so well that there is no pain. You have to turn on a button, and every single device is accessible for you.

These devices give you ultimate accessibility with FaceTime, iMessage, iCloud, and other in-house apps and features. Working in a system and making it a great deal is impossible. Apple is the right company to keep everything free and integrated. The iPhone makes it possible for you to access all the information and synchronize it well at the same time.

Inbuilt Apps

Apple believes in making things exclusive and straightforward for users. Along with the basic operating system or software, it provides numerous inbuilt apps to the users. These apps make the use of the device easier. You get the personalized browser, messages app, music library, photo gallery, calendar, maps, and much more.

All these inbuilt apps are designed to comply with the iOS design so you can use them seamlessly. In addition to these apps, users can access the other iOS-based apps available on the App store. These are the private apps developed by companies and corporations in the user's interest.

Ease of Use

The user interface of the iPhone is another attraction for senior users. The iPhone is best when you do not want to complicate the icons and have quick access to your favorite apps. Over the years, the phone has had the same interface and arrangement of apps. Moreover, there are shortcuts and access options to customize your favorite apps.

The simple and smooth access to the applications, settings, and available help center makes the device simple. People with typing difficulties can take help from the voice assistant Siri and enjoy life.

Priority Support

Customer care and support service are essential when you buy a phone. There can be anything wrong with the device, and you may need help with that. The iPhone gets you covered with priority support. You might find it expensive, and the procedure can vary for every region, but it is secure.

If you face a problem with the software, backup data, accessing the account, or any hardware issues, the support unit is right there to help you with it. For some people, it can be hard to access support due to limited operations, but it is not that bad at all. The online assistance is right there to help you immediately. Later you can send back the devices to the service unit and get everything fixed in time.

Backup

Digital devices make us worried about data backup and restoration. Apple not only keeps the data secured from hackers but creates a genuine backup. Everything on iCloud is safe and accessible whenever you want. It is simple to sign up for your free Apple ID and get the iCloud sync with your phone data.

It is possible to synchronize everything from contacts to pictures, videos, documents, and much more. Users have the freedom to set the update limits or synchronize timings. The system will automatically generate a backup after that interval.

An iPhone never loses its value

Buying a phone that costs many bucks, but you will probably lose a considerable sum of money on its value after opening the box. Since it's not pin-packed and you might have used it for one month, the value goes down, and you will have a loss.

It is not the case with the iPhone, as even after a year, the iPhone upholds its value, and you will not have to face the loss at all. It seems like an asset with slower depreciation. When you want to invest in your phone, enjoy the luxury and still have it in value, the iPhone is the right option.

Even today, we have the iPhone 13 series, but the versions of the previous two to three years are still shining in the market. These are as good as new and selling like hotcakes. So, do not worry; your iPhone will not be worthless as soon as you think.

Chapter 2
Set Up and Get Started

After getting a new iPhone, one of the major challenges is setting up and getting started with it. The people who are new to iOS will consider it hectic and time-consuming, but it is not. You have to select the options and proceed with the setup carefully. However, there is no complication in the procedure.

In this chapter, you can get to know everything about setting up and getting started with your new iPhone. You are making all the basic settings and getting it right from the beginning. Moreover, you can explore some basic and helpful features in your new iPhone to use it at its best.

Turn On and Set Up the iPhone.

The very first step is turning on the iPhone. The power, sleep, or wake-up button is the same in the iPhone. The location can be different depending on your iPhone model. Either it can be at the top left or the upper-left edge.

You need to press and hold the button until you can see the Apple logo on the screen to turn on the phone. Once you can see the logo, release the button and proceed further with booting. Sometimes, you have to charge the iPhone before switching it on. A low battery can cause a delay in turning the phone on.

Wake and Unlock

If the phone is already turned on, all you need is to press the wake button. It will turn the screen on and bring you a lock screen. By just swiping it, you can have the screen unlocked. Now, there is a next mission of getting started with the setup.

Select Language or Region

Turning on, you will get the options on-screen of the language or region. From the given table or list, it is convenient to select the appropriate option. Please make sure you select it right because the further options of connectivity and services are related to your initial selection.

Set Up Cellular Service

The iPhone asks you to enter a sim card to detect and connect with cellular service. You need to insert a card in the slot. The best thing about the iPhone is the sim insertion is simple and not fussy.

In the box, you will get a sim ejector pin. Take out the pin, push the pin in the sim, try the hole, and press gently. With one push, you will get the tray ejected. Now, use the Nano, or micro-sim, place it on the tray in the right direction and inject it back into its slot.

Once you push the tray in the slot, the phone will automatically detect the sim and cellular service provider.

Now you need to go to settings and select the option of Cellular. Select the option of Add Cellular Plan, and then you can scan the QR code the carrier provided or enter the provided code and details manually in the option.

Connect to the Internet

Next, you will get the option of choosing a Wi-Fi Network on the iPhone. Tap on the option and select the available network from the list. Enter the password and tap the Join button.

If you do not have access to any internet service or wish to connect to the internet, you can also tap on the skip button. Later you can connect with any internet connection or change the Wi-Fi connection as per your preference.

To change the internet connection, you can access Settings > Wi-Fi and select the connection option from the available internet connections in the list.

Apple ID and iCloud

There is a decisive moment before you set up and get started with the Apple ID or iCloud. This one-step is essential, and you have to take it seriously. You will get two options here:

● Are you replacing your old iPhone with this phone?

● Is this your first iPhone?

Selecting any one of these is essential. Each option comes with multiple options. Therefore, you have to make sure you pick up the right option.

Replacing old devices – if you are replacing your old iPhone with this model, it means you want to restore previous data. It will show you options of

● Restore from iCloud

● Back or Restore from iTunes

Selecting any one of the options will take you to the relevant sign-in screen.

First iPhone – When it is your first iPhone, it means there is nothing you want to backup from the iCloud or iTunes at all. Therefore, you can select the option of Setting up a new phone. If you want to restore or synchronize an iPod or iPad data, you should pick up the first option.

Signing in OR signing up to Apple ID

If you already have an Apple ID account, enter your email and password to access all your resources there. For the new users, it is free to sign up with Apple.

Select the option of creating an Apple ID for free. There is a possibility to skip creating or logging in to the Apple ID. You can access this option later but, you cannot enjoy the features coming with the Apple ID. It is better to do it right.

Fill out the essential details of your Email ID, passwords, and other related information. Agree to the terms and proceed with ID creation.

Now you have the options to select from

● Want to use iCloud

● Do not want to use iCloud

Using iCloud helps you have the data backup on iCloud so that you can access it anytime from your Apple ID on any device.

● Use Find My iPhone

● Do not Use Find My iPhone

It is a cool feature that lets you find your phone anytime you cannot locate it. Using your Apple ID, you can check the iPhone's location.

The next setting is for iMessage and FaceTime. You can add your email address or phone number to synchronize it with FaceTime and iMessage as well. You do have the option to edit the number or email later in the Settings>Messages option.

Next, you will get the option to use Siri (Apple's Voice assistant) or not. You can select it as per your choice. Using the feature helps you in using the iPhone in an advanced manner. It lets you access the searches and features seamlessly.

Apple ID settings

To change the Apple ID settings, you have options available in the Settings menu of the iPhone. All you need is to go to Settings, and there you can see your device name, which is probably your User ID. Tap on it, and you will get all settings options:

● Update contact information

● Change Password

● Account Recovery contact management

● Subscriptions and management

● Billings and payment methods

● Family sharing options

Turn iCloud features on or off

Turning off or on the different features of iCloud on your iPhone is quite easy. You can access the settings anytime and make changes just the way you like them.

Settings > User ID > iCloud > Apps using iCloud

Here you have the list of the apps using iCloud. You can switch them on or off as per your requirement.

Subscribe to iCloud+

iCloud+ is the option you have to buy additional space on the iCloud. It is the right option when you have heavy data and want to add more space for further data storage. Subscription is quite easy and handy:

Settings > Your Apple User name > iCloud > Manage Storage

Select the option of Change Storage Plan to Buy More Storage

Select the plan that suits you and follow further instructions for payment and settings.

Setting up Passcode or fingerprint lock.

Usually, you will get this option when you are setting up the Apple ID. Just in case you didn't get it, you can go to Settings > Touch ID or Passcode option as well.

All the models from iPhone 5S and later have the Touch ID option and Passcode. It is mandatory to set up a passcode before having the Touch ID.

Go to the Settings > Touch ID or Passcode and select the change or create passcode option to create a passcode. After turning it on, you can create this Passcode while setting up your new device.

Go to Settings > Touch ID or Passcode and select the Touch ID option to activate touch ID. It would be best to put the finger or thumb you want to record on the sensor. Please do not press the sensor but place your finger until it gives you a slight vibration and ask you to lift it back.

Then you have to place it again with a slight change in the finger's position. The sensor will be recording all sides of your finger to acquire maximum accuracy. On-screen, you can see what part of your finger has been recorded. Keep repeating the scanning until it is done.

In iPhone, you have the option of enrolling up to five different Touch IDs. You can scan more than one or two fingers for easy and quick unlocking.

Find Settings

The iPhone is a user-friendly device, and it has everything for you on the go. You can find the settings app icon at the home screen or next to the home screen. It is prominent and different at the same time. This icon is the basecamp of all the settings related to your phone.

When you enter the settings app, you will access your Apple ID, Phone settings, information, display, Call settings, and more. If you do not know the main domain of the required setting, you can search it.

On the top of the settings, you get a search bar. Enter any keyword there, like Themes, and you will get all relevant settings in results. It is seriously a matter of minutes to access any setting on your iPhone.
